What is Tracky?

Tracky (spelled "truck-ih") is a simple Windows Desktop Client for the amazing website trakt.tv.
It utilizes their powerful API and brings core functions to your Desktop. Trakt.tv has a wide range of third party apps but a simple solution on your PC - that doesn't need a bloated media center - was missing until now!
No installation needed. No hidden fees or costs. Unzip, start, enter your trakt.tv credentials and get going.

This software is written in C# .Net 4.0 and needs said environment on your PC to work properly.
Please be aware, the current version is a stable but still early version and may contain bugs.
Tracky is an offspring of a programmer's boredom, a fantastic API and some free time, don't expect a perfect piece of software.

Currently, a new trakt.tv API is being tested and developed/improved. As such the development and release of a new version of Tracky is postponed for now. Come back later to download a much improved version of Tracky!

What is Tracky not?

Tracky is not a replacement for trakt.tv, or your account on that website.
It merely gives you an easy way of updating your list of watched series and movies without the need of logging in.
Tracky won't offer you all the features that the website trakt.tv does. It's not intended to do that but it will make it much, muuuch easier for you to use trakt.tv without having to log in or to stay logged in everytime you use your PC and watch an episode or a movie and do so without a bloated media center.
In opposite to media center programs which have a trakt.tv plugin you can't checkin with Tracky nor set a show as currently watching.

Is this really free?

Yes it is! You don't need to pay me a single coin to use Tracky.
Let's be honest: Who would be willing to do that anyway? Although, it would be a nice gesture.
This program is not meant to make me a fortune, so feel free to use it.
Nevertheless, copyright still applies, mirroring the download is prohibited as well as reverse engineering.
Tracky might be free but it is not OpenSource, please respect that.

How to use Tracky?

Just download, unzip, start it. On the first time run you will be asked to type in your credentials.
That is your username, password and API key. What's API key you may ask?
It is a special, private key to make trakt's API available to you and you can find your own key here: API Key.
Click save and start using Tracky.
In the downloaded archive is a Readme with some more information.

Some of the elements disappeared after I minimized and restored Tracky?

This is a known issue and happens arbitrarily. Usually in the Shows/Movies tab. Search for another show/movie and then for the desired media again and all elements reappear.

Sometimes the scrollbar overlaps content, is that normal?

More or less, yes. It is another known issue but a bit more difficult to fix. Please bear with it for now.

When I do a search and click on a search result, it get's removed, leaving an empty space in Search. Why?

Tracky creates for each show or movie one object, this object is what you see in search. When you click that object to investigate the medium it represents further instead of cloning (copying) that object it will be reused. This saves some resources and simplifies a lot of internal things. Since you can create these objects really, really fast and therefore many this is the better way of handling it. Although, it is planned to change the order to avoid empty spaces for a future release.

Can I just delete the cache folder in Tracky's folder? It's so big!

That cache folder is exactly that, a folder to cache the images for shows/episodes and movies to increase the speed when loading those immensely. When you browse a lot of shows and movies or use Tracky hopefully on a near daily basis this folder can get big.
You can delete it without any problem when Tracky is currently not using any of those images (meaning Tracky isn't running) but this will result in longer loading times the next times you load your daily/weekly shows. Under Menu -> Options you can disable the caching entirely (not recommended, though).

Is there any language support?

No, it's not planned either. Trakt is in English and so is Tracky.

Would it be possible to make a Metro app?

Yes, but I won't create one. That'd be two separate Tracky versions to maintain.

Can I have feature X?

Maybe. But please keep in mind that I don't intend to replace the trakt website nor do I intend to circumvent any limitations for non-Premium users. Also, keep in mind that I might find your idea interesting but see myself unable to implement it either at all or in the near future. After all this is a hobby project among others and life doesn't pay for itself.
But we can always talk about it. Share your idea per mail, see Contact on the left.

What are the system requirements?

Only minimal resources are needed to run this program. But since it uses .Net 4.0 you'd need Vista or above to run it properly. RAM usage is usually around 24MB and I've seen it peaking at around 50MB in tests and at 100MB after some days having it constantly running (C#'s GarbageCollector is quite efficient). CPU usage is basically zero when you don't touch the program, so you can easily let it run in the background.

Where did you get that robot icon from? It's cute!

Yes, yes, it is. I found it on Dribble, it comes with a "freedom to do whatever you want"-License. I thought it resembles a television and is fitting for its purpose of "automating" your login on trakt.tv and setting an episode as watched.

I have found a bug, what do I do?

You bring my attention to it per Mail, click Contact on the left. Please describe what happened and under what circumstances did it appear. Did you get an error box with some gibberish? It might be helpful to either copy the content or make a screenshot and sent it, too.

I get a ton of error messages and Tracky doesn't display correct data, what happened?

The servers of trakt.tv regularly scrap data from their sources and while doing so the connectivity is either limited or zero. Just wait a minute or two and let trakt do its work and Tracky will work again like a charm.

Is that all? I can do much better than you!

Maybe, maybe not. Clear is you apparently didn't, otherwise there'd be already a program like Tracky out there. ;) And no, some other things are planned, improvements apparently besides new features. Since I have only every now and then time I can't say any timeline, though.

I have a question that is not answered. What now?

Feel free to contact me with the left Contact menu entry. Don't be shy!
